Meet Our December ‘21 Woman Crush: Lauren Goodwin
Well, here we are... the last woman crush of the year! We had to end this year on a high note and it only felt right to highlight this phenomenal woman, Lauren Goodwin! Lauren and I met this year through a mutual friend and quickly became friends. She is an amazing business woman and just launched her own beautifully crafted line of handbags. Let's get to know more about her and find out all she is up to.
Tell us About Yourself?
My name is Lauren Goodwin. I’m a Philadelphia native living in Los Angeles, CA. I’m currently the Director of Ecommerce and Digital Marketing for Proudly, a skincare company for babies of color co-founded by Gabrielle and Dwayne Wade. I also have my own handbag line, GOODWINXXII, which launched this year. I have over 10+ years’ experience in ecommerce working in fashion, beauty, and luxury industries. I spent over 11 years living in New York City before moving to LA in Jan 2020, right before the pandemic. I love 70s and 90s music, exploring new cities and all things anime.
What Do You Feel Your Single Season Has Taught You?
I’m amazed at how self-sufficient I am. Tasks that normally require strength or at least two people, I’ve been savvy enough to figure out how to do it myself. Mostly out of necessity not by choice. If I can’t figure it, then I’ll pay someone who can. That said, being single so long made me realize my love language (romantic or platonic) is acts of services. Let’s help each other get things done!
A common misconception is single life (for women) is this depressing, waiting room before you live your most fulfilled, complete (married) life. You need someone else to complete you and find happiness. However, that’s not true for me. My life, goals and value are not predicated upon whether I’m in a relationship or not. I’m a happily single, ambitious woman accomplishing everything I set out to do. At times, I chose to stay single because it was in my best interest to learn, heal and evolve. There nothing wrong with that either. It will make you a better partner in the long run.
What are Ways You Combat Loneliness in this Season?
Lots of activities with friends and family. Plan that trip, go to that party, and do anything to meet new people and celebrate your existing relationships. There is so much to explore and be thankful for. Therapy also helps. It’s rough out here for everyone, single or married.
How Do You Practice Self Love?
Because I’m always on the go, rest is very important. I take one full day on the weekend to do NOTHING! I don’t plan anything major. If I feel like napping all day and watching movies, then that’s what I’m doing. If I decide to walk around the city or go shopping, that’s cool too. I let the day unfold as it may.
Also, each night, I take a hot shower to wash the day away. I light my favorite candle and use my favorite scented lotions to moisturize before I head to bed. I also outsource as much housework as I can. I hired a cleaning service to help maintain my house. With the extra time, I started cooking more.
Hang in there! We’re often told we can have it all – career, marriage, motherhood. It’s a lofty goal that requires a lot of help. You’re not a failure if you don’t want any of those things. You’re not a failure if you only check one of those boxes. Double down on your gifts and divine purpose in life and the rest will fall into place.
