Meet Our April Woman Crush: Alicia Christine Beach

This month we got the opportunity to talk with wellness advocate and coach, Alicia Christine Beach. Alicia has graced the Single Girl Club platform on multiple occasions as a contributing writer — sharing insightful articles about dating and the tools she’s begun using to make this season of her life joyful. We are honored to spotlight her as our woman crush to learn more about her singleness journey and how she is helping other women heal from past traumas by teaching them actionable steps on how to move forward with their lives.

Tell us About Yourself!

I’m Alicia Christine Beach and I am courageous. My gifts and passions have led me into fashion entertainment, journalism, education, background singing and now, wellness. After a personal health crisis due to trauma, stress and emotional pain, I decided to change my life but this time it was to step into a deep call as a healer of my own story. On my healing journey I discovered the power of breathwork, meditation and veganism. Today, I am a certified meditation and trauma informed wellness coach. I’ve never experienced as much joy as I do now partnering with people on healing emotionally and finding peace and happiness beyond the weight of their trauma. I speak, host online workshops and share my knowledge as a coach and guide.

What inspired you to start your organization Divine Womanhood?

As a recent college grad I volunteered at a non-profit organization that served women and children impacted by intimate partner violence. While at this facility I learned much about my history and began to heal. Serving at various shelters and hearing women’s stories compelled me to formulate Divine Womanhood to serve individuals impacted by dating violence, emotional abuse and intimate partner violence. I wanted to be what I needed as a younger woman in need to understand how to have a healthy relationship with myself and others.

What do you feel your singleness journey has taught you?

Living single (lol) has taught me that I can thrive at any phase of my womanhood journey. When you’re single, people insinuate things about your worth and happiness but I have found those are simply projections and standards that come from this co - dependent, patriarchal driven society. Being an unmarried woman at this time,  has given me the opportunity to learn to love everything about myself. I have time to be inner focused and also work through ideals around “what I should be,” which has empowered me to now show up authentically and  fearlessly! Being single has taught me that I can get high off my own supply and that being fierce self love.

What did your last relationship teach you?

Ooh Chile! When you asked that question I thought of a toxic ex who through drama taught me to look at patterns because they don’t lie. However my last relationship,  the one I am embarking on, is teaching me that it’s safe to love. I’m leaning into vulnerability and intimacy.

Are you currently dating and what has your dating journey revealed to you?

Yes, I am dating and having a ball..haha! Dating has given me the space to learn what I need and desire from a relationship and it’s given me practice to express it. In past dating scenarios I betrayed myself by not expressing myself freely. Overtime, I  have learned how to remain true to my core beliefs, desires and personality in the process of getting to know someone. This confidence has come from the innerwork I’ve done to grow and feel safe in my skin. Being single has made me a better lover to myself and this love extends in how I show up in romantic relationships. I’ve learned that we energetically attract who we are exuding at the time. When we start to become what we desire, dating feels more pleasant and exciting.

As a successful and busy business woman how do you practice self-love?

Self love is about honoring your needs, listening to your body, caring for yourself well and doing so without judgment. I give myself grace when I find myself pushing too hard or stressing. I rest, faithfully. Resting is my gift to me because I need it to heal and I deserve leisure. I show myself love through the pace I choose to live which is slow. Mindful living is self love and for me this looks like being present, compassionate self talk, and finding joy in the simple things. Practicing mindfulness is the greatest gift that I give myself.

You’ve mentioned that you enjoy reading womanist and liberation literature – Can you give us a few suggestions?

Yes, of course. Right now I am reading bell hooks, “ All About Love” and I feel seen. I am also listening to ‘Sensual Faith’ by Lyvonne Briggs and that book is a healing resource. Briggs speaks on the struggle many black women of faith experience when it comes to loving ourselves and our bodies. It’s powerful. Another transformative read for me has been, “God is a Black Woman” by Christena Cleveland. The author uncovers the black divine feminine and what it means to find hope in her and not the “whitemalegod.” It’s provocative, affirming and liberating.

What words of wisdom do you wish to share with other Single Women?

Enjoy your life sis. Do things that make you happy and do the innerwork to free yourself from expectations that do not serve you. You get to decide how you want to show up in this world and the life that you want to live. Don’t allow people or any societal structures keep you from dreaming for more and what’s different. Your courage and uniqueness will reward you. Get some rest and heal your nervous system. Surrender to the undoing that the healing journey encourages and open your heart. Love heals.
